Building Meaningful Relationships
Many of Canada's First Nation and Inuit communities are situated in remote areas with significant mineral potential that are now being explored by resource companies. North Arrow recognizes that building trust with local populations is essential to redefining the mining industry's legacy and creating a sustainable future for all stakeholders.
Our approach to community engagement is guided by a simple but powerful principle: consult early and consult often. Like any relationship, transparency is essential to building trust between the people who use the land and the companies that wish to explore it. We believe these interests can coexist harmoniously, but only through ongoing, honest communication and a genuine willingness to work together.
Our Engagement Process
North Arrow's community engagement begins with introductory meetings where we not only present our company and potential projects but, more importantly, listen and learn about the community itself. Our comprehensive approach includes:
- Leadership Connection: Engaging with regional and community leadership
- Grassroots Outreach: Reaching families and individuals most directly impacted by exploration activities
- Communication Preferences: Understanding how stakeholders prefer to receive information and updates
Local Economic Integration:
Identifying local businesses that could provide services to our projects
Skills Inventory:
Recognizing community members' skills to create local employment opportunities
Land Use Coordination
Learning when and how the land is used by local people to minimize disruption
This approach has yielded valuable insights that have directly improved our projects. For example, at our Pikoo Project, we learned to avoid conducting airborne geophysical surveys in October during moose hunting season, as low-flying aircraft would disturb the hunt—a critical traditional and subsistence activity.
Maintaining Relationships Through Industry Cycles
We acknowledge the challenges of the cyclical exploration industry, where project activity may pause due to market conditions or seasonal factors. Trust is difficult to build remotely, and face-to-face interactions are essential. During periods when active exploration is paused, maintaining these relationships requires creativity and commitment.
As high-speed internet reaches more remote communities across Canada, online meetings are increasingly helping to bridge communication gaps during leaner times in the industry. North Arrow is committed to maintaining dialogue with communities regardless of the current level of exploration activity.
Community Sponsorship
North Arrow actively supports community-focused initiatives in the regions where we work. Our sponsorship priorities include:
- Education and Skills Training: Programs that build capacity and create economic opportunities
- Cultural Preservation: Initiatives that protect and celebrate traditional practices and knowledge
- Health and Well-being: Activities promoting community wellness and quality of life
Our past sponsorships have included sports team travel costs, driller's assistant training programs, prospector courses, youth camps, school field trips, musical instrument donations, fishing derbies, and the traditional bowhead whale hunt in the Hamlet of Naujaat.
As a junior exploration company without revenue streams from production, our ability to support causes may be influenced by our current budget, project activity, and financing status. However, we carefully consider all proposals and strive to contribute meaningfully where we can.

Global Application
While our community engagement approach was developed through our work with Indigenous communities in Canada, we apply these same principles of early consultation, transparency, and mutual respect to our operations in Botswana. As we advance the Kraaipan Gold Project, we are committed to building strong relationships with local communities and ensuring our presence contributes positively to the region's social and economic development.
